The acclaimed DJ began her journey in 2018, through Pussy Party - a nightlife incubator for women and queer DJs in Jozi(Johannesburg). Kat Upendi has since heated up dancefloor after dancefloor in and around the city.
Collaborating with and performing at events hosted by Mamakashaka, Homecoming Events, Nouveaux, Boiler Room, The City of Jozi and Night Embassy by Jagermeister…the list goes on. Her sound explores fusions of popular Afrobeats with alternative sounds across Africa, delivering a diverse experience of African music to our local dancefloors.
In 2020, Kat enjoyed a 9-month weekly residence with 5FM, showcasing the best in Afrobeats and Alte Cruise on the 'Live at Night' show with Smash Afrika. She now hosts her own monthly radio show on online station Lilies Radio, taking us through some of her favourite musical finds and selections.
Kat dazzles her audiences with eclectic mixes, proving her skills as one of South Africa's foremost curators of Afrobeats and other sounds alike from our continent.
